KNOX-BOX Key Box and Key Switch Program

A ®KNOX-BOX key box is a heavy-duty enclosure in which keys to a building are stored. They are mounted on an exterior wall of the building (normally near the main entrance) and can only be unlocked by the fire department.

LTFR requires ®KNOX-BOX key boxes on all structures that contain either a monitored fire sprinkler or fire alarm system or as specifically required in accordance with the following code sections:

We recommend that all commercial buildings have a ®KNOX-BOX key box in order to prevent property damage in the event that we need to access the building in an emergency situation.

In addition electrically powered access gates are also required to provide emergency access for fire department vehicles. Key Switches are also available from the KNOX COMPANY in order to meet this requirement.
